Reading is Fundamental (RIF)

The Phoenix Book Company is proud to be an authorized vendor for Reading Is Fundamental, the oldest government subsidized literacy program in the US.

Welcome RIF Coordinators:

Phoenix Book Company is pleased to be able to support the work you do to promote literacy and help children discover a joy of reading. We know that in your position as RIF Coordinator you have choices on how to spend your RIF dollars. At Phoenix Book Company, we pride ourselves on our selection, quality and prices and believe that we can help you make the most of your RIF budget and bring the best books to children.

Our RIF catalog represents a broad range of titles, subject areas, and reading levels to suit the needs of a variety of RIF programs nationwide. We offer more than 650 titles to RIF programs, and all books are $1.99 or less. Our RIF catalog is available in a variety of formats: online, print, Adobe .pdf, and MS Excel. Contact us if you would like another format for your shopping convenience.

Seven Main Categories of Books:

  • Picture Books are larger format, written and illustrated for youngsters
  • Leveled Readers are broken down into levels one through four for beginning readers
  • Early Chapter Books are short books, with some illustrations, and short chapters to encourage continuous reading
  • Chapter Books are normally intended to begin at the fourth grade and continue through the high school levels
  • Teen Books are separated out for content. In many cases the reading level is lower than ninth grade, but these books usually contain high school or more sophisticated themes (listed on our site under the Chapter Books heading)
  • Spanish Books are written entirely in Spanish
  • Non-Fiction titles vary in reading level and cover a wide range of topics

    Substitutions:

We do not substitute out-of-stock books on RIF orders without your specific permission to do so. If a RIF order specifies that substitutions are permissible, and we are unable to fill a quantity, we will contact you directly to ensure your satisfaction with the books we will substitute.

    Assortments:

We are also able to offer assortments to make it easier for your program to calculate book quantities and costs. Contact info@phoenixbookcompany.com to inquire about assortments.

    Shipping & Sales Tax:

We provide free shipping on RIF orders within the continental US. Arizona programs are subject to sales tax at 8.3%.

    About RIF:

Reading Is Fundamental, Inc. prepares and motivates children to read by delivering free books and literacy resources to those children and families who need them most.

Founded in 1966, RIF is the oldest and largest children's and family nonprofit literacy organization in the United States. RIF's highest priority is reaching underserved children from birth to age 8. Through community volunteers in every state and U.S. territory, RIF provides 4.5 million children with 16 million new, free books and literacy resources each year.

All RIF programs combine three essential elements to foster children's literacy: reading motivation, family and community involvement, and the excitement of choosing free books to keep. (from www.RIF.org)
